International training programmes
EMA provides Finland with the European Resuscitation Council’s (ERC) official training programmes in cooperation with the Finnish Resuscitation Council.
The courses offer excellent readiness for resuscitation and the management of life-threatening emergencies in accordance with European standards.
The content of the courses consists of:
- Lectures
- Freeform discussions
- Practical skills and workshops
- Simulation learning
ALS (Advanced Life Support)
A two-day course, which offers a systematic approach to the care of an emergency patient and teaches towards efficient teamwork. The course is suitable for nurses and physicians working in acute units of healthcare (e.g. ER, surgery, ICU, emergency medical care). The contents include lifelessness, special situations of resuscitation and life-threatening emergencies.
The course includes an initial skill level test, a final exam and a final simulation test. Upon successfully completing the courses, the participant will be issued a certificate which is valid for three years. Courses are organised annually around Finland according to demand.

ILS (Immediate Life Support)
A one-day course which includes the essential information and operating methods that are needed for identifying an adult emergency patient using the ABCDE method. The course is suitable for healthcare professionals that rarely encounter a lifeless patient but who are expected to initiate high-quality resuscitation before rescue services arrive. The course also prepares staff to operate as a member of a resuscitation team.
ILS courses are organised upon order. The minimum number of participants is ten (10) people.
EPALS (European Paediatric Advanced Life Support)
A two-day course. The course is designed for healthcare professionals who are likely to be a team member or team leader in the resuscitation of a child, baby or new-born.
